History of PHP

PHP is an "HTML-embedded programming language" mainly used for developing web applications that are dynamic. The primary part of this definition implies that PHP code is often interspersed with HTML code, making it straightforward to create dynamic elements of web content. As a programming language, PHP code will only with the help of the PHP processor. PHP codes are often executed as plain-text scripts which will only run on computers that support PHP. On the contrary, these programming languages will create independent executable files in the binary system which are often known as programs. PHP codes is inspired from other programming languages like C, Java and Perl and not to mention that it was developed from C programming Language. So some of the syntaxes of PHP resembles those programming languages. PHP is an open source coding language and it can run on almost every OS (Operating system) like Windows, Linux, Mac OS etc. and with most web servers. As mentioned earlier, PHP was developed using the C programing language by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994 who used it to monitor and observe his online resume and associated personal data. Which made to people to refer PHP as "Personal Home Page" - this is how PHP was known to the world initially. Then, Lerdorf integrated PHP along with his own Interpreter and released this integrated code globally as PHP/FI (initially named as PHP 2.0) in the year 1995 on June 8.

Two renowned programmers in the history of PHP, Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans went on to remodel PHP's core and released the updated version as PHP/FI 2 in 1997. Which made previously formed acronym to be called as Hypertext PreProcessor (PHP) at this point. In 1998, PHP 3 was released, that was the first widely used version of PHP around the globe. And then the new version PHP 4 was released in May 2000, with a brand new core, referred to as the Zend Engine 1.0. PHP 4 boasted improved speed and reliability in comparison to PHP 3. In terms of features, PHP 4 offered additional references, the Boolean type, COM support on Windows, output buffering, several new array functions, enlarged object-oriented programming, inclusion of the PCRE library, and more. PHP 4 version is still accessible on the internet, primarily for security updates. Later on, PHP 5 was made free in July 2004, with the updated Zend engine 2.0.

The release of PHP v7.0 in 2015 was considered as the most exciting events in the world of programming languages, ten years after the release of the last major PHP version 5.
